On Tuesday evening, the House Revenue Committee held a work session on a proposal to impose a new tax on monthly telephone bills to fund ongoing operations at 9-8-8 suicide prevention and behavioral health crisis hotlines. During the 2021 session, the legislature considered a similar tax but used federal funding to offset the costs. Now, however, the continuation of the program relies on the state finding a new funding source.
